Responsible Energy
Hobbies—the things we do for fun, not necessity—should be positive for ourselves, others, and increasingly importantly, the environment. Ideally, our activities should be responsible and low-impact in their use of resources. I’ve made an effort to operate Yellow Cardigan on this principle, incorporating the following adaptations to be as green as possible.

Personal Energy

Yellow Cardigan headquarters—my apartment—is powered by 100% wind-generated electricity. This alternative to traditional fossil-fuel energy is clean, renewable, and available in many areas for only a slightly higher price. In New York, ConEdison Solutions offers the service (as well as a hydro-wind combination) to existing ConEd customers, and the switch is totally easy. Read the power scorecard, and consider the change.

This site is hosted by DreamHost, a carbon-neutral company. DreamHost has calculated the environmental costs of running its business, and has taken pains to reduce them through day-to-day conservation and the purchase of credits for renewable energy and emission reduction. Learn more.

Paper Zine

All future issues of Yellow Cardigan, the zine, will be printed in small runs on recycled paper. PDFs will also be made available, so as to potentially avoid paper use altogether. And of course, readers of the hard copy are very much encouraged to pass it on, or recycle it properly, when they’re done.
